I'm new to the blogging part of this thing...
I love Ventura, and have since I moved into Mid-Town six years ago. I love being able to walk to Jue's Market, or Pete's Breakfast House. The tri-tip burritos at Rob & Jim's Fresh Grill are excellent, and in time, I'll write more about all of them.
But one of the things I really like are the parades. There are parades a short walk from my home. Not the Rose Parade, which was actually a long walk from my last home, even though I never went.
It's the neighborhood parades. There's the St. Patrick's Day Parade, and I think there's another one. But my favorite is the 4th of July Push 'em Pull 'em Parade. What could be more awesome than signing up for a parade at 9:30 AM and marching by 10? Come in any costume you like, bring whatever you want and away you go.
Obviously, some planning took place. This year I saw a tiki hut wagon, a Civil War Vet with his drummer boy, and the charectors from the Wizard of Oz. On the other hand, there was a lot of people just walking, waving flags and throwing candy.
Did I mention the candy? My kids dig sitting on the side, and watching the people throw candy. We're always at the beginning, so we get tons.
Next year though, my son wants to march. We'll decorate his bike or wagon or person or some combination of them all, grab some candy, and away we'll go.
