I turn 41 next week, the same day Madonna turns 46. I’m past 40.
I started this site a few weeks ago, and I’ve noticed a few things. For the most part, people in the arts seem more likely to die before they hit 40. And generally, they do not die of natural causes.
There are a couple of reasons for this that I can think of. First, sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll are not conducive to a healthy lifestyle. Being a rock star, actor, writer or painter means that you live life on the extreme. You’re out there, and you won’t live long.
The second, and more important thing, is that we’re not meant to die before 40. Not me, not you, not anybody. If you die before 40, it’s generally your own damn fault. You’ve done something wrong, wether it be too many drugs, to much drink, or some other excess. Sure, a few people are unlucky and have their body betray them, but most of the deaths listed were avoidable.
So once again, do what you want to do, be what you want to be, be mindful of your own limitations.
You’re still alive. Make the most of it.
