Every now and then, a movie comes along that is so important, it rates mention in all manner of media. A movie so important, that everyone should see it, and learn the truths it tells.
Many of you may think of "Fahrenheit 9/11" as being such a movie. I don't know (I haven't seen it yet), but I do know that if you want the truth about the deaths of Elvis Presley and John F. Kennedy, you need look no further than Bubba Ho-Tep.
Going to my mother's is always a journey of discovery. There's always some unusual thing around that I've never seen before, a book, a movie, an object, something found by either my mother or my sister that catches my attention. Bubba Ho-Tep was just such a thing. A movie starring Ossie Davis and Bruce Campbell playing Jack Kennedy and Elvis Presley in a modern day old folks home, Bubba Ho-Tep certainly is unusual but interesting. And since both would be very old, (Jack Kennedy in his 80's and Elvis pushing 70), it somehow seems fitting that these two actors would play them-except that Ossie Davis is black. It's a problem explained early in the movie.
These two duffers go against a lost Egyptian mummy who has apparently been sucking the souls of people in that area for many years, settling in at the old folks home for the easy pickings it provides.
Like all good horror movies, there are laughs to relieve the tension. Not belly laughs, but uncomfortable laughs, and this premise certainly provides for that.
Hey, you got a couple of bucks, and you want to see something a little off the wall? Director Don Coscarelli does a great job of holding this film together.
See Bubba Ho-Tep. Learn the truth.
